Joe Ursida - Coaching

Joe Ursida graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1964. He then attended Geneva College graduating in 1968 with a degree in business education. He served as Golden Tornadoes captain his senior year.

Joe started his coaching career at Beaver Falls Junior High School with Karl Florie. After a seven year stint at Seneca Valley, Joe went to New Brighton in 1977 and became head coach from 1990 until 1994. In 1994, his Lions won their first WPIAL title since 1951, with a 13-1 overall record and the school’s first undefeated (10-0) regular season, which earned Joe Coach of the Year honors.

Joe started coaching softball in 1980 and made New Brighton a yearly contender. His teams won eight section titles and finished second on twelve other occasions. As of the present, Joe is the winningest softball coach in Beaver County with a 516 victories. He has been a coach at New Brighton High School for 40 years.

In 2002, Joe was selected one of the Top 100 Geneva College football players from 1950 to 1975. He was inducted into the New Brighton Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Here’s a piece of Beaver County sports trivia: Joe is the only person to be coached by, coached with, and coached against Larry Bruno.

Joe boasts 46 years of marriage with his lovely wife, Mary. They have two sons, Gene and Sean, and four grandchildren. Joe enters the Larry Bruno Foundation’s Circle of Achievement as an outstanding coach and motivator.
