On September 9-10, 2011, the Larry Bruno Foundation sponsored a weekend reunion celebration to honor the two undefeated teams from the 1960 and 1961 Big Beaver Falls High School football seasons.
Dedication Ceremony: A dedication ceremony for the Joe Namath Practice Field at Big Beaver Falls Area High School will take place at approximately 1:30 PM. A school pep rally for the Big Beaver Falls vs. Aliquippa football game will be held directly following the ceremony. (Public event)
Honoree Reception: The Larry Bruno Foundation will host a private, pre-game reception for the 1960 and 1961 football team members that will be honored at the evening football game between Big Beaver Falls and Aliquippa. The reception will be held from 5:45-7:15 PM at the Geneva College Metheny Field house. Food and refreshments will be provided. The team members will then be recognized during a pre-game presentation in celebration of the two undefeated seasons in 1960 and 1961.
Pre-Game Honoree Presentation: The teams members will gather on the football field at 7:15 PM and will be introduced by the Honorable Judge Rick Mancini, former Beaver Falls football coach and player. He will tell the story of the undefeated seasons by introducing and honoring the teams and players in attendance. Judge Mancini will also honor prominent sports figures in Beaver Falls history, including Joe Namath, Jim ‘Bucky’ Mutscheller and Coach Larry Bruno. Valerie Bruno will be representing the Bruno Family. (Public event)
Larry Bruno Foundation Hall of Achievement: The Carnegie Library of Beaver Falls will welcome attendees and share their future plans for restoration and programs to be held at the library. A ceremony will be held to honor representatives from the 1960 and 1961 Big Beaver Falls football teams. Joe Namath, Jim Mutscheller and Larry Bruno will also be inducted into the Circle of Achievement located in the Larry Bruno Foundation Hall of Achievement at the library. Joe Namath will present a Super Bowl book, which he is donating to the Hall of Achievement. In addition, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will unveil a historical plaque to be displayed by the Larry Bruno Foundation. Mayor Boak of Beaver Falls and Representative Marshall will be in attendance to speak proclamations to the honorees. Celebration of Honorees: The Larry Bruno Foundation is planning to host a celebration and gathering from 6:00 – 9:30 PM at the Seven Oaks Country Club for friends, family and fans to celebrate the teams and inductees. Cocktails will be served from 6:00 – 7:00 PM with dinner following from 7:00 – 9:30 PM. A maximum of 350 tickets will be available to attend the celebration. Babe Parelli, former Rochester graduate and New York Jets team member, will be a guest speaker to recount his memories of Joe Namath and Jim Mutscheller. Entertainment and evening activities will be provided, including a sports memorabilia auction, with donations from the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Joe Namath signed helmets.
